Edavaka Mission

Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” ~ Romans 10:17

Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists’ Association (MTVEA) was officially formed in the year 1924 in response to the vision of our late Metropolitan, Abraham Mar Thoma who proposed the concept that “every Marthomite is a voluntary evangelist”.

Every member of the Church should be a missionary filled with such joy and assurance of salvation as to be Christ’s witness to those who come into contact with him, irrespective of one’s profession in secular life. The Edavaka Mission works with the laity to help the church members to grow stronger spiritually and to reach out to the wider community, sharing good Christian values and ethos with the community. The Parish Edavaka Mission is affiliated to MTVEA and its core functions are based on the seven activities of the Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelist’s Association such as, Intercessory Prayer, Bible Study, Witnessing and Sharing, House Visits, Charity Projects, Prayer meetings and Gospel work among non Christians. To meet these objectives the Edavaka Mission organise a number of activities.

A Night Vigil is organised once every month where we intercede with God on behalf of the church members and wider community, bringing our joint needs and petitions to Him and pray for the spiritual growth of the church members. Edavaka Mission organized a Dhyana Yogham from 24th to 26th of February 2017. Rev. Shibu Kurian, Vicar, St. Johns MTC, Hounslow led us during the first two days; he emphasized the importance of leading a life that is based on following the teachings of Jesus Christ. Rev Mathew Abraham, Vicar, St Mary’s Orthodox Church, Bristol led the adult session of the Family Retreat conducted jointly by Edavaka Mission and Sunday School on the 1st of October 2016. He shared his own personal experience while leading the adult session. Every Friday a chain prayer is organized from 4am till midnight. A Fasting Prayer is held on the first Saturday of every month at the church under the leadership of our Vicar Rev. Abraham P Mathew. Edavaka Mission Sunday was celebrated on the 2nd of October 2016 and Achen reminded the importance of being ‘visible Christians’ to others. Edavaka Mission organized Sandhya Namaskaram during the Lenten Season and the parish members participated in it by both joining the prayer meeting as well as opening the door of their house to hold the meeting. The proceeds from the Thanksgiving Offertory held every First Sunday of the month is set aside as a charity fund to meet the needs of deserving individuals. Each family received a book on daily devotion, either in English or Malayalam, with the aim of supporting the church members in their spiritual growth and well-being and to help them to develop closer relationship with God. The Edavaka Mission actively participates in the UK Centre MTVEA.

It is our prayer and wish that the Almighty continue to equip the mission members with the vision and drive to support the core activities of the organization.
Our member, Mr. Saji John serves as Edavaka Mission’s Centre Secretary. Mr. Varghese George served as the Edavaka Mission secretary.
